Vimy Commemorative Ride 2017 June to November - Ongoing
World War 1 Motorcycle Ride:
There are to be numerous rides and displays across Ontario in 2017, on replica WW1 motorcycles commissioned by the 4CMRA, to support Legions and other groups honoring the 100th anniversary of Vimy Ridge, along with Canada's 150th birthday.
Short Term: The Cross-Canada motorcycle ride will commemorate the 100th Anniversary of The Battle at Vimy Ridge by bringing our ‘Living History’ replica 1917 Douglas Dispatch motorcycles and other World War 1 equipment to many communities across Ontario. Our riders are dressed in authentic World War 1 replica Dispatch Rider uniforms with our support staff in what-can-be-described as World War 1 work uniforms.
We are visiting local Royal Canadian Legion branches and communities .
The tour will be in two phases: the majority of communities will be visited by the motorcycles; phase two, Major Stops, will visit specific communities where we intend to bring other authentic World War 1 vehicles including cars, ambulances, and other motorcycles – all in working order, to enhance our visit. Phase Two locations will be longer in duration. The private collection will arrive a day prior to the motorcycles and pack up after day 2. Locations reflecting both Phase 1 and 2 are listed below.
We intend to engage local communities in their World War 1 commemorations by enhancing and supporting their activities. We intend to engage local politicians and media creating a permanent record for these communities.
Given the uniforms, motorcycles, vehicles, etc., are a draw for both youth and other members of the community and will resonate with them the fact there were faces who served, not just names in text books or names on buildings and cenotaphs.
The media and photographic record in each community will become a lasting record of our visit.
